Mid-Century Pasadena Garden

Pasadena, CA

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

Located in the Busch Gardens area of West Pasadena, this single-story home was designed and built by noted architect Bob Ray Offenhauser in 1957, an exemplar of classic mid-century design.

The current owners purchased the home in 2022, upgraded the mechanical / electrical and lighting systems while maintaining and celebrating the original design elements. In 2023, the owners embarked upon a complete exterior remodel, including a new fire-retardant roof, hardscape, irrigation, drainage, lighting and drought-tolerant landscaping. The owners set their sights on a design that celebrates the mid-century architecture, blends with the surrounding neighborhood, and most importantly, is fire-resistant and water-wise.

Custom designed and fabricated metal gates and fences in both the front, side, and back of the home fuse form and function. The rear yard was completely reimagined, featuring an outdoor cooking / entertainment area, fire pit, and a custom built metal pergola.
