About
This collaboration between the Architect home owner and Landscape Designer resulted in a sophisticated and engaging garden to complement the refined design of the home.
In the front, the wide Bluestone stairs and landings welcome you to the home and garden. Expertly-constructed stone walls raise the small front garden aloft. The custom paver walk connects to the new driveway and invites one to intimately experience the highly textural planting including Dorycnium hirsutum, Rubus pentalobus, and Phormium ‘Dark Delight’. Mature Cornus kousa and red leafed maple beautifully frame the landscape and home.
Arriving in the back garden, you are first met with the lovely bubbling sounds of a custom black basalt water feature, popular with birds as well as humans! A thoughtful interplay of corten steel walls, black basalt pavers and gravel walks is employed to create various seating opportunities from which to enjoy the garden.
A fine-tuned palette with blue and chartreuse plantings helps to soften the built structures. Vibrant Cistus ‘Mickie’, cool Dymondia, and playful Carex flacca ‘Blue Zinger’ are just some of the plants used to bring a dynamic play of textures and colors to this serene and stylish landscape.
This garden’s estimated size is 2,700 sq. ft
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Visitors with mobility issues can use the sidewalk and sloped, paved driveway to view the front garden. Using the driveway, people with mobility issues would go through a gate to a decomposed granite path along the side of the house. The back garden is accessed by two steps and lands on a gravel seating area. Walkers and wheelchairs would likely not be able to go into the back garden, though the whole back garden can be viewed from the end of the DG path along the side of the house.
