About
Early in our marriage my husband and I went to England where we found endless amounts of inspiration, especially in the conifer gardens. We also visited Japan and developed a keen interest in Japanese maples.
About 40 years ago we started cultivating our long, skinny, rocky acre. It started off slowly but four decades later it contains over 200 dwarf conifers, large collections of rhododendrons, azaleas, Japanese maples, and a variety of unique trees that we fell in love with and collected from near and far away places.
We’ve also collected many hostas and a great variety of perennials over the years. The narrowness and the rocky ledge made designing the garden a challenge. The design therefore has evolved greatly over time. Now it contains multiple terraces, rock gardens, fairy gardens, shade gardens and areas of open grass.
You can view the gardens from the lawn areas or meander down the stone pathways in each garden for a closer look. I enjoy surprising visitors with sculptures residing under foliage or sitting by a fountain.
This garden's estimated size is 1 acre.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: My front yard is a moderately steep incline.
