About

Built in 1931, Villa Vecchia is a rare example of a two-story California Spanish-style house in Palm Springs. The Tamarisk trees, planted when the house was built, provided a wind and sun block when the house stood alone in the open desert.

The homeowners, professional landscapers and owners of Mojave Rock Ranch Landscaping for 42 years, began year-round color and texture, boasting a creative and eclectic mix of exotics, natives, succulents and rare plants!

Some of the more interesting plant material includes: Bombax, cycads, cirio (boojum), cactus, Dyckias, aloes, Adeniums, kalanchoes, Alluaudias, Euphorbia, Pachypodium, citrus and palms… stretching the limits of what will grow in various microclimates!

Arizona flagstone and native rock from the surrounding deserts direct flow to all areas of the detailed garden sanctuary. The mural on the front of the house, “Sicilian Beauty,“ is a friendly welcome to the garden!! Adding intrigue to a blank Casita wall, the designers embedded over 300 ceramic plates from around the globe … making the wall a riot of color, pattern, texture!!! The great diversity of plants in the garden attracts birds, butterflies, lizards, and other wildlife.

This garden’s estimated size is 1/4 acre.
