About
Opening just a year after the inception of the Garden Conservancy, we’ve seen our fair share of visitors over a twenty-five-year run. Closed over the past few years, we had an impulse to do a one-time encore. If you’re a previous guest, we’d love to see you just one more time. If you saw the listing but never made it, here’s another opportunity. If you’re new to the Garden Conservancy Open Days Program or new to gardening, see the results of this lifetime effort.
This is a long, somewhat narrow one-third-acre suburban garden with an interesting collection of mature shrubs and trees. Sloping up from the street, the front yard has a central plateau dominated by an oval boxwood hedge and narrow upright yews embracing a large fountain. All vestiges of lawn have been replaced with peastone. Another incline leads to the sidewalk and house. Four separate stairways provide pedestrian access while low retaining walls and brick edging separate and accent the garden spaces. Many urns containing annuals and tropical plants are placed in and around the gardens.
The back yard consists of curving gardens and peastone with a lawn accent. Various hedge types and a series of cedar fences and latticework provide privacy and intimacy. Just one of many large specimens, a seventy-five year-old blueberry bush provides a central focal point. The right side of the yard terminates in another fountain. Many container plants complete the picture.
