About

The style and structure of the gardens at The Yellow House is mainly inspired by the traditional European gardens. The gardens are laid out in a series of 10 intimate areas emanating from the house and gradually transitioning into the wider landscape. The design of each garden carefully considers the balance between formal structure and the rural, woodland setting to create an atmosphere that allows the mind to relax, wander and connect with nature. Structure and symmetry give way to wonkiness; formality of tightly clipped hedges is balanced by the looseness of plants within them. Some gardens were built for practical reasons, while others were created solely for the immense pleasure they bring every day. For example, the kitchen garden provides vegetables & herbs for the kitchen whereas the white garden is a perfect spot to sit down, relax and take it all in on a beautiful summer morning. Each garden reveals itself slowly as you move from one area to the next. There are many flowers in bloom throughout the seasons such as snowdrops, crocus, tulips, daffodils, fritillaries, muscaris, alliums, irises, roses, foxgloves, hydrangeas, and dahlias to name a few. However, they are not the sole attraction, they work alongside other elements such as garden gates, pathways, structures, stone walls, water fountains, and surrounding woods and pastures to create a magical experience. All gardens at the yellow house are entirely organic and chemical free.

This garden’s estimated size is 3/4 acre.
