Rusnock Garden
Milton, MA
About
When we bought our home in 1996, the yard was a blank canvas. We started with a vegetable garden and then set out to create a cozy back deck and patio area reminiscent of a Nantucket cottage. The next step was to define the boundaries of the yard and add privacy with hornbeam trees. Later we repeated a hedge on the opposite side of the yard with upright beech and sweet gum trees. Not one to shy away from hard work, JT started a stone wall project that was meant to delineate the end of the lawn from the edge of the woods. That turned out to be an elegant ending for the yard. A raised bed becomes a woodland walkway planted with spring ephemerals and other favorite shade lovers. ‘Annabelle’ hydrangeas, Petasites, Woodland Peonies, and Trillium populate the shady side, while peonies and dahlias find sun on the opposite side. We truly love watching things grow and change with each season. If you are looking for us on the weekends, we can be found in the garden doing the digging, pulling, weeding, and transplanting that is never ending in the lives of gardeners.
This garden’s estimated size is 1 acre.
