The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

This is a large country garden, surrounded by woodland, inspired by its natural characteristics and combining formal and relaxed planting elements.

A 450-foot-long rock ledge runs parallel to the front drive and is topped by a dry garden. Behind the house is a sequence of garden rooms: a formal area contained within a raised hornbeam hedge, a perennial garden around our swimming pool, a fountain garden, a sundial and rock garden, and a fenced vegetable and cutting garden.

From here, a hydrangea allée leads either to a lawn with, on one side, a seating area nestling within sweeps of perennials, and on the other a mixed border around a faux-bois grouping, or to steps up to a wooded knoll, with paths connecting a folly, a pet pergola, a water feature and a stumpery.

Our garden has been featured in magazines and in the books Great Gardens of The Berkshires, Private Edens, and Private Gardens of The Hudson Valley.

This garden's estimated size is 10 acres.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: It is a large garden with some steep slopes and steps. We have tried to make it as accessible as possible for everyone.
