About
My gardens have been a work in progress since 2015. Overlooking the mouth of the Connecticut River, it faces challenges from wind and weather. I’ve created a native grass meadow on the river-facing slope with a man-made waterfall.
A woodland border, ornamental shrubs and perennials grow closer to our historic 1812 house. The foundations from a couple of 1800s stores exist on the property.
A stately American elm stands on the property, one of 55 planted throughout the town to mark the centennial of our country, a rare survivor of Dutch Elm Disease.
An apple espalier provides screening for our patio along with a bounty of delicious apples of varying kinds. After living a rather nomadic life for nearly 40 years, this was the first place I could really spread my wings and exercise my passion for gardening and landscaping and remain long enough to watch the plants mature and fill in. I have enjoyed the learning process and am blessed to have the opportunity to steward such a special place.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: The house and ornamental gardens are level, with a slight rise from the street. There are multiple stone steps that lead downhill through the meadow and to the river.
