Perrin Garden
North Salem, NY
About
A curved driveway, partially lined with bottlebrush buckeye and fragrant sumac, leads to a rise revealing an English-style country house bordered by an apple orchard to one side, a spring woodland garden on another side, and a grass meadow in the front.
Visitors pass through a series of beech- and yew-lined courtyards to get to the front door. In the rear, formal gardens surrounded by stone walls contain mature perennials and provide lovely views of preserved land in the distance. A small brick and flagstone area surrounded by perennials offers an intimate spot for dining under a sweet gum tree.
Below the formal gardens, a transition garden combines native grasses with blueberry bushes and gives way to
a wildflower meadow. The property continues to evolve in its incorporation of more and more native plants to provide a habitat for wildlife and a more sustainable landscape for the future.
This garden's estimated size is 14 acres.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Some parking spots require a walk uphill to the garden. Recommend sturdy shoes for walking in the meadow.
