Old Town Semi-Secret Garden

Lafayette, CO

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

Love of Space, Stone, and of both wild and cultivated Nature characterizes this garden evolving over 21 years in the hands of sculptor Kimmerjae.

In the center of Old Town Lafayette, enter this friendly sanctuary through a woven arch of poplar shoots and trumpet vine. The lawn is primarily native blue grama grass. An arching canopy of multi-trunk ash trees forms the ceiling plane of the main open area, where monthly concerts are held in the warmer seasons. Sculptures nest in the border, with many plants bearing fruit and medicine.

All watering is done by hand here, with a few channels tended like old-style irrigation ditches. Other features include a collection of hardy roses, and various

stone features throughout the garden built using materials saved after substantial projects during the owner’s years as landscape designer-builder.

Happily, the large sandstone Lioness seen in the 2025 tour has now moved to her permanent home in Lyons, CO.

What new work will this season bring?

This garden’s estimated size is 1/4 acre.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: There are many areas of slightly uneven stone terrain, and the native grass lawn is bumpier than the standard bluegrass version.
