About
Nestled into the hillside of the northern Catskills, Nestledown is a Victorian home and garden built in 1902 and lovingly renovated in 2007 along with the surrounding landscape. My goal has been to create a garden that feels both timeless and deeply connected to the mountain environment - a place where hardy plants, seasonal beauty, and wildlife can thrive together.
The gardens focus on pollinators, continuous seasonal blooms, and an edible appeal woven naturally throughout the property. Many of the plants featured here were selected for their ability to flourish in the northern Catskills climate while still offering texture, fragrance, and color across the seasons. Towering oblique beech and grand red oaks shelter the property from mountain winds and strong summer sun, creating a peaceful woodland atmosphere around the home.
Rustic cedar twig architecture accents the vegetable garden and frames a silver lace vine-covered arbor, adding handcrafted charm to the landscape. Hydrangeas, sambucus, nepeta, amsonia, and many other hardy flowering shrubs and perennials fill the gardens with color and movement throughout the growing season. Peonies, my personal favorite, hold a special place throughout the borders.
Several Japanese maples were carefully transplanted from our former city rooftop garden, bringing both elegance and personal history to Nestledown. Charming stone walls softened with climbing hydrangea vine and European ginger help blend the gardens naturally into the surrounding Catskill hillside.
Nestledown reflects my love of creating gardens that are beautiful, welcoming, and grounded in the rhythms of nature. Every path, planting, and structure has been designed to celebrate the resilience and beauty of mountain gardening while offering a peaceful retreat for visitors to enjoy.
This garden's estimated size is 0.5 acre.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: There are stone steps and non-wheelchair-accessible entrances to patios and stone walkways. Grass areas are level.
