Nature's Flow

Chadds Ford, PA

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

When we moved here in December 2010, our realtor described the property as an empty palette for a gardener. Throughout that first winter, my design evolved to emphasize indigenous plants in a naturalistic flow throughout the garden.

We planted more than 200 trees and shrubs in the first year, and in November of 2011, we seeded a native plant meadow in the front area.

Two smaller meadows were planted in succeeding years, one in the far back to emphasize native grasses, and another one close to the back of the house in order to enjoy all the life a meadow provides. A seasonally wet area has a thick planting of moisture-loving native plants. My passion also includes many conifers.

In 2019, a small bog garden was installed. The garden includes several art pieces—a bronze turkey vulture, a metal sculpture of a deer and two mosaic sculptures.
