Lori’s Cottage Garden

Windham, CT

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

My husband and I live on a back lot in a Cape Cod style home. It was converted from an old barn on a property that was a small farm in the ‘50s. We are surrounded by mature evergreens but have lots of sun exposure. There are many boxwoods in front of our home outlining a cottage style, three season perennial garden.

Some favorites are lavender, sedum, daisies and balloon flower to name a few. The shade garden to the right of our home has many large hosta and hellebores.

There is a large stone patio out back with mature shrubs and western red cedars creating a cozy outdoor room.

Three years ago we built a raised bed garden so I can grow dahlias, zinnias, and other cut flowers.

I have a passion for flower arranging and every summer I like to add to the many varieties of perennials to cut for arrangements. We also added a large potting shed for tool storage and garden supplies with a nice area to sit in the shade on a hot summer day.

This garden's estimated size is 1 acre.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Our property is very flat and gardens are mostly surrounding the house. With very easy access and safe walking areas.
