Frances Palmer's Garden

Weston, CT

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

Adjacent to Frances Palmer’s pottery studio is her large cutting garden, which supplies myriad blooms from early spring through frost. Frances grows Alice in Wonderland flowers. They inspire her ceramics and her photography. Her garden is especially known for her dahlias; she plants more than 100 different shapes from the smallest pom to the largest dinner plate varieties.

In addition to the cutting garden is the tennis court garden with more than 15 raised beds on it and 4 active beehives. Colors and textures abound in both gardens, dahlias interweave with zinnias, amaranth, sunflowers and herbs. There is also a small orchard on the property. September is the height of the garden’s abundance. In the event of rain please wear rubber soled shoes.

This garden’s estimated size is 20,000 sq ft.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: There are three active beehives on the property. In the event of rain, please wear rubber-soled shoes. The garden is up a slight hill that must be traversed to see the garden. The dahlia/cutting garden has stone paths in it. In order to access the tennis court garden you must walk down a small hill and then up 15 stone steps to the garden.
