About
Digging Deeper: Designing and Cultivating a Moss Garden
Mosses are extraordinary plants-they grow without roots, flowers, or stems. They are among the oldest land plants on earth, having been around for more than 450 million years. There are about 20,000 different species of moss. Some grow in the most inhospitable and driest places: on mountain peaks and even in deserts. Despite being overlooked, in many ways, moss is a perfect garden plant: it provides year-round color, excels in difficult climates, prevents soil erosion, requires no fertilizers, and resists pests and disease. In this Digging Deeper program, the garden owner will reveal how to cultivate moss, how to identify different types of moss, and how to design and plant your own moss garden.
