Dappled Berms- The Garden of Scott VanderHamm
Poughkeepsie, NY
About
The garden is situated on a 1-acre property within a 1950s (IBM-era) suburban community. As a result of the mature- growth trees which dominate the grounds, a shade perennial garden was created and cultivated over 28 seasons of gardening.
The assembled collection of plants, spread throughout numerous beds and man-made berms, relies heavily on the juxtapositions of color, texture, and form to bring interest and natural beauty to the garden. One of the highlights of the garden is the collection of more than 500 different Hosta cultivars numbering more than 785 specimens, all labeled for ease of identification.
Dappled Berms is one of 25 gardens featured in the book by Linda O’Keefe, Inside Outside: A Sourcebook of Inspired Garden Rooms.
Garden Extras: Adams Fairacre Farms will be on site with a special pop-up plant sale for the event. Many plant varieties featured at Dappled Berms will be available for sale.
This garden's estimated size is 1 acre.
This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Visitors must walk up a fairly steep driveway. Only upper portion closest to house is somewhat level. The remainder is uneven terrain.
