Cottage Garden

San Rafael, CA

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

I have spent the last 25 years bringing my garden to life. Initially, four eucalyptus trees were planted around my townhouse, preventing any garden from flourishing due to the soil’s acidity. Once I had all the trees removed I got to work!

After bringing in copious amounts of new organic soil, I replanted with variously themed gardens for shade, sun, and partial shade. The themes included an all-white garden with loads of white roses, a colorful shade garden with begonias, hellebores, fuchsias, and ferns, and a profusely colorful flowering cottage garden on

my back patio with roses, colorful pots seasonally planted with cascading flowers, as well as an herb garden.

The landscape provides four-season interest primarily with perennials, flowering shrubs, vines, and ground covers that provide nearly all the seasonal color.

This garden’s estimated size is 2,000 sq. ft.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: The garden has a smooth pathway leading to a small cobble stone path with a slight slope leading to the sidewalk out to the lagoon.
