About

Nestled along the Allegheny River in the Highland Park neighborhood of Pittsburgh awaits a little piece of Eden that makes the grind of the City feel as though it’s a world away!

Choderwood, an urban sustainable homestead owned by Steve and Jody Choder, is a secret rustic haven steps from the hectic City pace. Once inside the gate, everything—from the lush gardens and koi ponds to a greenhouse- enclosed swimming pool and a riverside fire pit—suggests serenity and relaxation. A meditation hut awaits anyone seeking to quiet an inner voice. The free-range resident chickens and ducks provide fresh eggs.

A Potager Garden, a private boat dock and a secret Hobbit B&B, and a green roof are just a few of the garden projects the Choders have undertaken to create their oasis. The property was once owned by the Army Corps of Engineers to house their employees and families. Choderwood is Country living in the City!

This garden's estimated size is .5 acre.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: Half of the gardens are located along level, paved sidewalk. Access to the docks and HobbitTown requiring steps.
