Anglewood Acre

New Berlin, WI

The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

Your first impressions of Anglewood Acre are of the unusual (and graceful) conifers and the masses of hostas, over 400 at last count.

Anglewood Acre is organized as a series of winding paths, some of grass and some snaking through the trees. At every turn, there are carefully curated vignettes, artfully designed with layered vegetation and often whimsy. Bloom times are carefully monitored to ensure that there is interest from March through October.

There are two water features: a secluded pond hiding in plain sight next to the house, and a wildlife pond, not aerated, that serves as a happy home for the resident frogs and turtles. Of note are the numerous varieties of daylilies, some of which belonged to her grandmother who was an early hybridizer.

Underlying the beauty of the landscaping is the desire to create a habitat in which plants, insects, including pollinators, birds, amphibians and small mammals are at home. This is accomplished by having a variety of plantings, including over 200 species of natives, and relying on organic and natural products to manage the property. The gardens have been solely maintained by the owners for 23 years, and their creativity and attention to detail is evident everywhere you look.

This garden's estimated size is 1 acre.

This Garden Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: The property is mostly flat.
