Olmsted’s Moraine Farm
This program explores the history and future of Moraine Farm, Frederick Law Olmsted’s earliest residential landscape, located in Beverly, MA, now under the stewardship of The Trustees, the oldest and largest land conservation and preservation organization in Massachusetts. The program includes a talk and in-depth tour followed by lunch on site. It will be hosted by senior staff members from The Trustees who are leading an ambitious project to restore and open Moraine Farm to the public. Moraine Farm was Olmsted’s first master plan for a residential country seat and served as a laboratory for ideas that culminated in his design for Biltmore in North Carolina. Owned by the same family for generations, this program offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at The Trustees’ early efforts to restore and open a major American landscape.
Make it a weekend getaway in New England! Registration includes free admission to other Trustees-owned public gardens on the North Shore, including Long Hill (10 minutes away), the Crane Estate’s Castle Hill (25 minutes away) and Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens (30 minutes away).
