Distant Hill Gardens—Garden of Michael & Kathy Nerrie

Distant Hill Gardens—Garden of Michael & Kathy Nerrie

Walpole, NH

At Distant Hill Gardens we consider the entire fifty-eight-acre property to be a garden, from the cultivated ornamentals and vegetables, to the native plants of our forest, fields, and wetlands. We use the term 'Garden' broadly to include the growing of any plants, and believe in the importance of plants, their cultivation and their use in the landscape to help foster an ecological balance between humans and the land. Some of the highlights of Distant Hill Gardens included cultivated gardens with more than 400 varieties of labeled plants, a large biodiverse variety of native plants and trees, and numerous vernal pools, swamps and wetlands. A boardwalk travels over a floating cranberry bog, and a large stone circle was built with stones from the property. The three-acre ‘Milkweed Meadow’ is for monarch butterflies and dozens of creative sculptures can be enjoyed throughout the gardens. Don't miss the new half-mile accessible nature trail.
