The Garden Conservancy Preservation Partner Garden

About

The property is a dramatic mountaintop home and gardens with a panoramic view of Spofford Lake. A variety of outdoor rooms, stone walls, and patios surround the home from which the easterly vista can be enjoyed. More than 100 rhododendrons, some of which are rare, fill the property with an ongoing display of blooms lasting from early April until mid-June. Thousands of spring bulbs are followed by an ongoing show of perennial and annual beds and borders, providing ongoing and continuous summer and fall color. An infinity pool visually blends in with the lake below and leads the eye directly to a view of Mt. Monadnock. A path winds through the woodlands under a high oak canopy which provides a cool retreat and shelters a collection of wood ferns, Kalmia, Stephanandra, Carolina allspice, ginger, clethra, multiple Ligularia, Brunnera, Heuchera, Trilliums, jack-in-the-pulpit, lady's mantle, bleeding hearts, woodland peonies and asters, Pachyphragma macrophyllum, spring bulbs, and other shade-loving plants. Moss and partridge berry (Mitchel/a repens L.) cover much of the woodland floor. The woodlands are anchored by a huge Lunaform Borghese pot. A shaded bench provides a framed view of Mt. Monadnock through the trees.

This garden’s estimated size is 2.5 acres.
