Love Letter to a Garden with Debbie Millman

Love Letter to a Garden with Debbie Millman

In Love Letter to a Garden, I share my journey to make and grow a garden, a process that started with child-like wonder in my grandparents’ backyard garden and grew into a lifelong obsession with flora—from tending handed-down houseplants to grief over the loss of a lone peony to harvesting my first potato. I grew (and often failed to grow) gardens in both New York City and Los Angeles, whose eventual bounty instilled both pride and joy. In this webinar, I’ll share some of the lessons my garden has shown me, including lessons in patience, generosity, and perspective. I’m grateful to carry those around with me wherever I am. Through my post-COVID travel, I began to more closely observe flora around the globe. I write in the book “despite their many differences, the flora live side by side without much rancor.” To view the world through a garden metaphor is inspirational to me.

DEBBIE MILLMAN has been named “one of the most creative people in business” by Fast Company, and “one of the most influential designers working today” by GDUSA. Millman is an illustrator, author, educator, and host of the podcast Design Matters. Broadcasting for 20 years, Design Matters is one of the first and longest running podcasts in the world. The show won a Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in 2011, and Apple has named it one of their “All Time Favorites” three times. In 2023 the show won two Webbys, three Communicator Awards, a Signal Award, and three awards from the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, and earned an Ambie nomination.
