Learn about the philosophy and history of this famous English site, designed by Vita Sackville-West and her husband, Harold Nicholson, in the late 1930s. Discover how Vita's overflowing flower beds and Harold's formal garden structure of Classical and Moorish influence are maintained and enhanced in the twenty-first century. 

Datta will give a virtual tour of each of the distinctively themed "rooms" of the property, and tell how she achieved such spectacular results while maintaining great affection for the garden's creators during her tenure at Sissinghurst.

About the speaker
Alexis Datta spent 22 years tending to the Sissinghurst Castle Garden, the last nine of them as head gardener. Her total of 42 years as a professional gardener includes work at various British gardens, both public and private, before joining the National Trust in 1983. 

"While the garden has evolved since its inception in 1930," says Alexis, "it is still gardened dynamically."
